Rinse before each use and check the opening is clear. Water quality matters: hard water leaves deposits that slow the flow.

Before you pot it up
Measure the pot you have, then go one size up.
Pot size is measured across the top rim, in inches. When a plant outgrows its pot, move up by one to two inches of diameter. A pot far larger than the root ball holds soil the roots cannot drain, and that rots them.
Drainage is the other half. Every listing says whether the pot has a hole and whether a saucer or mesh pad is included. A pot without a hole is a cover pot: keep the plant in a plastic nursery pot inside it.
